Two piece band, one with a doom metal background the other learning and experimenting with ethereal sounds... The idea behind this, is to make a band that sounds almost as if it was a strange record found in a pub in it's heyday of eighties.

With a lot of trad goth, doom metal, 80's synth with a bit of good old fashioned rock the first album will be an introduction to fantasy stories and dark reality.

Victorient: Tansy and Sam Dunham-Carter

Can you tell us a bit more about your background and how you became an artist?
We both come from musical backgrounds from our families, and have always been surrounded by art and music so we followed suit and created a career from it.

Which artists have inspired you in your creative process?
It is a long list, but we sort of 'distilled' Victorient into a combination of Black Sabbath, The Cult, Cocteau Twins and eighties electronic music. It was our starting point for the bands beginning, but we do listen to allot of genres which winds it's way into future projects.

What is your creative process like and how has the occult, music, ... been an inspiration?
Because we are married the creative process is slightly different from other bands, we have the freedom of acting on creative ideas. Although we don't follow the occult, we do find it very interesting with it's history and mythology.

Are you working with certain concepts in mind or do certain images manifest while creating new songs?
We use the first four bands we had as a 'staring block' and add to it when we create music, songs and art. We try and marry the visual and the sonic together to create Victorient's style.

What do you believe is a key element in creating a good composition?
A good strong melody, pushing yourself out of your comfort zone to try new things, but still remembering what you're passionate about and strong at.

What do you feel makes your work truly unique and your own?
No one can actually place us into a genre, what we have influenced us has made us uniquely Victorient.

How has your style changed over the years?
Our first album we purposely laid our styles, so we wouldn't be restricted to one musical genre, but from now and moving forward we think and feel through time and experience that makes Victorient uniquely, Victorient.
